The operator shall provide appropriate operating procedures which are safe and simple to conduct. In any case, safety will have priority over noise reduction!

The operator must specify 2 different procedures for each type of aircraft;

NADP1 = minimise noise in noise-sensitive areas close to the runway in use
NADP2 = minimise noise in noise-sensitive areas further away from the runway in use

Responsibility of the commander

If he believes that the NADP procedure is not safe to perform, he/she can choose to carry out the procedure to a more conventional method. Such factors can include;

- Conflicting traffic in the departure zone making it necessary to deviate from course
- High traffic density
- ATC instructions
- Weather conditions that require full power

NADP1 - Noise Abatement Departure Procedure 1

- Power reduction at/above the minimum altitude (800ft)
- Delays flap/slat retraction until the prescribed maximum altitude 3000ft
- When reaching 3000ft, the aircraft accelerates, flaps are retracting and a positive ROC maintained

-> The aircraft climbs at V2+ 10 to 20 kt until reaching 3000ft

NADP2 - Noise Abatement Departure Procedure 2

- When reaching minimum altitude 800ft, flaps/slats are retracted
- Power reduction at a predetermined point along the climb path
- At 3000ft, accelerate smoothly to cruise climb speed

-> The aircraft climbs at V2+ 10 to 20 kt until reaching 800ft

Exceptions to a NADP take off

A "reduced power take off" is not permitted if the minimum rather conditions cannot be met, factors include;

- Contaminated runway
- Horizontal visual range < 1NM (1.9km)
- Crosswind component (including gusts) > 15kt
- Tailwind component (including gusts) > 5kt
- If windshear is predicted or has been reported or when thunderstorms are present in the area

Factors influencing a landing in accordance with NADP

- Runway contaminations
- Cloud base (ceiling) < 500ft or horizontal visibility < 1NM (1.9km)
- Crosswind component (including gusts) > 15kt
- Tailwind component (including gusts) > 5kt
- If windshear is predicted or has been reported or when thunderstorms are present in the area
- No ILS or visual approach slope guidance

Important: Noise abatement procedures shout NEVER prohibit the use of reverse thrust and no turns shall be coincident with a power reduction!
