FIRST AID KITS
HAND-HELD FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
MEGAPHONES
CRASH AXES OR CROWBARS
COMPLIANCE WITH FLIGHT RULES
All aeroplanes operating under VFR are to be equipped with;
- Magnetic compass
- Accurate timepiece
- Sensitive pressure altimeter
- Airspeed indicator
- Additional instruments/equipment as may be prescribed by the authority
! VFR flights operating as controlled flights (class B and C airspace) are to be equipped as for IFR flights
All aeroplanes operating under IFR (or when it cannot maintain the desired attitude without reference to one or more instruments), must be equipped with;
- Magnetic compass
- Accurate timepiece
- 2 Sensitive pressure altimeters
- Airspeed indicator (with means of preventing malfunctioning)
- Turn and slip indicator
- Attitude indicator
- Heading indicator
- Means to indicate the power supply to the gyroscopic instruments is adequate
- Means of indicating OAT
- Rate of climb and descent indicator
- Additional instruments/equipment as may be prescribed by the authority
! Aeroplanes operating under IFR with a single pilot crew shall have an autopilot with at least and altitude hold and heading mode
LIGHTS
For flights by day, an aeroplane shall be equipped with;
- Anti-collision lights
- Lighting for all instruments
- Lighting to illuminate the passenger compartment
- Torch readily accessible for each crew member station
Additional required lights for nights;
- Navigation/position lights
- 2 landing lights
FLIGHTS OVER WATER
These regulations apply to those flights over water where the aeroplane is vulnerable to ditching. For multi engine aircraft this is considered 50 NM from the shore.
- One life jacket or individual floatation device for each person on board (with a location light)
- Enough life rafts so that if the largest one is gone, all persons can still fit the others (60 persons requires 3 life rafts for example, each with a 30 persons capacity)
LONG RANGE FLIGHTS
Are flights that are;
(multi engine aircraft) = More than 120min at cruise speed, or 400NM (whichever is less) away from land suitable for making an emergency landing
(Other aircrafts) = More than 30 minutes or 100NM (whichever is less)
EMERGENCY
Emergency Lights
- Need a independent power source for when the batteries have been switched off. They provide;
- Sources of general cabin illumination
- Internal lighting in floor level emergency exit areas
- Illuminated emergency exit markings and location signs
- Exterior lighting at all overawing exits and exits where descent assistance devices are provided
Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT)
All aeroplanes registered after 01/01/2002 are required to be fitted with an ELT capable of transmitting on;
121.5 MHz, and
406 MHz
