Runway Visual Range
Determined along the RWY in equal intervals and should be measured for at least a third of the length. The RVR is continuously monitored if the ground visibility falls below 1500m
RVR is stated in the landing direction, first for the touchdown zone, then mid point and stop end
Braking Action
0.40 and above = GOOD
0.39 - 0.36 = MEDIUM TO GOOD
0.35 - 0.30 = MEDIUM
0.29 - 0.26 = MEDIUM TO POOR
0.25 and below = POOR
Cloud classification
Sky Clear (SKC) = 0/8 octas
Few (FEW) = 1-2/8 octas
Scattered (SCT) = 3-4/8 octas
Broken (BKN) = 5-7/8 octas
Overcast (OVC) = 8/8 octas
A "ceiling" is stated when cloud cover is more than half the sky so this includes BKN and OVC.
Weather broadcast
ATIS = Provides routine information to arriving and departing aircraft by means of a continuous and repetitive broadcast
Broadcasts are updated every 30 minutes and marked with a lettre which pilots should report upon first radio contact
METAR = The current prevailing weather at an airport, contains a trend section for the weather in the next 2 hours
TAF = Forecast for an airport for a specified period (stated in the TAF) and does not include information on QNH, temperature and dew point (vary during the day)
VOLMET = Provides the METARs for different airports while in flight
